EncinitasThe Encinitas Union School District serves the city of Encinitas and the neighboring La Costa area of Carlsbad. All 9 of the EUSD's elementary schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools; several have been honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Test scores generally fall within the 80th and 90th percentiles. There are also a number of private schools in Encinitas. The eco-friendly EUSD is exploring the possibility of going solar at all of its campuses. Engineers are currently evaluating which campuses would be best served by solar roofs, which would provide about 70% of the school's power needs and reduce electric costs. The EUSD has also been recognized for its recycling efforts and is among a handfull of California school districts that were accepted into the state's "School Wellness Challenge," which aims to provide specific training in the implementation of school wellness policies and practices. The community's middle & high school student are served by the San Dieguito Union High School District's Oakcrest & Diegueno Middle Schools, La Costa Canyon High School and San Dieguito High Academy. The SDUHS district is also nationally recognized for its strong academics; all of the just mentioned schools rank among the state's top ten percent.
